Good lawyers require both knowledge and insight and the ability to successfully execute a plan or strategy and obtain the best result for their client. We think of this as a two-wheeled approach. With only one wheel, the journey cannot be successfully completed. MSLG lawyers’ knowledge and insight is backed up by strong practical experience in successfully executing their plans to the desired end. All of this is built upon a clear understanding that, whatever the issue, small or large, whether between companies or individuals, it always involves some kind of a relationship and interactions between people. MSLG approaches each problem with that in mind because the key to resolving any legal problem requires an understanding of the individuals involved, their fears, interests and objectives, histories, cultures, relationships, communication modes, and so on. Each person is unique and a cookie cutter or stereotype approach to any individual is likely to fail.
Mirroring our own development over the years, both San Francisco and Silicon Valley have grown from humbler origins to globally recognized hotspots known to cultivate the rise of major new enterprises and innovative up-and-comers. But just as these locales foster advancements in a variety of different technological fields, so too do they give rise to many different problems. MSLG has been involved in many cases and projects stemming from just those problems. Though many legal matters involve extravagant investments, others are hidden in the shadows. Some cases may be forward-thinking and progressive, while others involve cleaning up after concluded matters. Regardless of the particulars of each case, they always boil down to the simple act of people interacting with other people. In modern society, information is crucial, “information is king”. But all information ultimately comes from people, and we believe that true insight comes not from processing information, but from understanding the people who develop it. The sturdy backbone of experience that buoys MSLG above the crowd was built up through twenty years of endeavor and struggle by our attorneys. Nothing would make us happier than to take the insight we have built up over those years to tirelessly support the endeavors of the people around us. If you find yourself in what appears to be a problematic or difficult situation, the best advice we can offer is not to panic, not to become stressed, not to rise in anger or frustration, but to communicate and share your perspective with legal counsel who are always ready to listen and listen very carefully and to help you to find the best solutions. You, the client, are why MSLG exists and we want to help you find the best solutions to whatever your problems may be. This is the spirit of MSLG’s culture and we look forward to a long and close relationship with each of you. |
Our Strength For over twenty years, Marshall Suzuki Law Group, LLP (MSLG), with offices in San Francisco and the Silicon Valley, has successfully handled a wide variety of legal affairs for its U.S. and international clients. Because a large percentage of the firm’s lawyers and staff members are bilingual in English and Japanese and are also extremely familiar with the laws and cultures of both countries, MSLG has contributed significantly over the years to the creation and strengthening of strong business connections between the United States and Japan. Our firm is a pioneer in international conflict resolution, readily handling both criminal and civil legal matters. What does MSLG specialize in? Of MSLG’s key partners, one has been working for over 40 years as a litigation attorney, with a particular focus on financial litigation. On this foundation we have built a practice with a diversified range of expertise, able to assist clients from a wide variety of backgrounds in a wide variety of matters. Please refer to the "About" section of this website for our prior experience and specializations. Furthermore, MSLG is proud of the stability of its staff. There is no revolving door at MSLG and most of the staff has been with the firm for many years, some since the very first day. The firm has established and maintained a unique culture since its inception. It is one that recognizes that every individual is critically important to our success and the high quality of services that we provide to our clients. We value the strengths and particular expertise of each member of the staff and the contributions that each individual has made over many years to an extremely positive and fulfilling work environment and our client oriented approach. We at MSLG take great pride in being truly client-oriented, and we hope you will consult us for your legal needs, whatever the subject: we fulfill our clients’ needs in a wide variety of areas, and are certain that we can provide you with the help you need. In fact, this very website was constructed in-house, thanks to the know-how of our more tech-savvy attorneys. |
What makes MLSG special compared to other US firms? MSLG’s greatest strength lies in how closely and strongly we connect Japan and the United States. A large percentage of attorneys and staff are fluent in English and Japanese, and are also extremely familiar with the laws and cultures of both countries. We foster an office climate that encourages English and Japanese language speakers to consult our firm without fear of an impermeable language barrier. And, though it is often said that bilingual attorneys have little experience going to court, every attorney at MSLG has extensive experience navigating American courtrooms, giving them the skills to provide practical litigation services in addition to the document driven attorneys are steadily growing more famous for. Why does MSLG avoid “flashy” or “showy” advertising? MSLG specifically and deliberately avoids what it considers to be unnecessary and costly advertising, the financial burden of which most firms simply pass on to their clients. We do not wish to add to our clients’ financial burdens and it is simply not necessary. Moreover, the firm strongly believes that the increasing emphasis on lawyer advertising is damaging in several other ways. First, it adds to the public’s negative impression of, and disrespect for, the profession, second, it sometimes encourages a level of incivility, or at least the impression of incivility, among lawyers, and, third, it commercializes and undermines the overall dignity of a profession that should exist to serve its clients and the public good. Of course, we are realists. In order to do a great job for our clients and to continue our pioneering legal and social activities, our law firm and its lawyers have to survive and prosper, pay for an excellent support staff and other resources, and stay in business! Flashy advertising is not required to achieve our goals. Most new MSLG clients are, in fact, introduced by referrals from other satisfied clients and business associates and our client relationships are strong and long-standing. MSLG does reach out to its clients and the public via helpful lectures and publications, which we believe serve to enhance the value that the firm offers. |
