About Practice Areas
When we first started out as Marshall Suzuki Law Group (MSLG), we wanted to create a law firm that overturns the unsavory stereotypes that dog the legal industry, and make our clients think, “this is how law firms should be.” It was our goal to build strong, intimate connections with each client, be they an individual person or a sprawling company, and establish a relationship that was satisfactory to both sides. To achieve this ideal, we committed ourselves to eliminating any and all obstacles that might stand in our way. We also strove to make sure that our office environment was distinct from the rest of the industry, fostering a workplace that encourages our employees to support and challenge each other to fulfill not just business goals, but their own personal goals as well. Furthermore, perhaps foremost amongst our ideals is the broadest and loftiest of them all: lifting up the legal profession, developing harmonious relationships with the people that interact with our firm, and striving ever diligently to improve the very world all of us share.
Although MSLG has been around for nearly 20 years, our firm is not burdened by the sort of archaic and burdensome hierarchy that so commonly plague other law offices. While the experience, capability, and knowledge each member of our firm has to offer our clients can vary greatly, we always operate and work as a single “team”. The opinions and contributions of each member of our team are critical to the day-to-day operation of our firm. It is our firm belief that our firm simply cannot continue doing what it does without the earnest endeavors of each member of our team, the work each member puts in to meeting their own goals and helping achieve the goals of others, and our daily efforts to exorcise every trace of the sort of arrogance that might be seen at other offices. The combination of these beliefs and efforts have allowed us at MSLG to avoid the inflexible “vertical structure” that have come to define the larger law firms, and greatly expanded our initial, revolutionary ideas into a reality far grander than we had ever imagined. We have every faith that the quality legal services we have thus far provided, the results we have achieved, and the client satisfaction we have fomented are all due to this unprecedented “team structure” we have championed. We have made every effort throughout the years to develop the deepest understanding possible of our client’s problems, businesses, and personalities. As we value forming long-term relationships with our clients, we have exercised every caution in minimizing the risk to our clients, and to develop a practice designed to respond to virtually any situation. We have no intention of loosening this stance at any point in the future. MSLG is committed to earning an intimate understanding of our clients, be they an individual or a business, even to this very day. As with any other legal practice, clients are especially concerned with the cost-effectiveness of the legal services provided. Well-received legal practices, therefore, all work toward controlling the hours billed by their attorneys and eliminating redundancies in work hours, but MSLG strives for more: we devote ourselves fully to achieving complete control over the costs accrued in our day-to-day services. MSLG strives to eliminate undue burdens on our clients by combining a technological environment fitted with the necessary and newest in equipment, a comfortable workplace, and extensive knowledge of cost-control techniques. While other firms may have grown accustomed to passing on certain extravagant expenses to their clients, such as opulent office equipment and furniture, decadent hospitality efforts, and new attorneys who serve as nothing more than expensive bag-holders, MSLG would never dream of forcing our clients to shoulder such excesses. We at MSLG also place strong emphasis on developing and maintaining a global perspective when it comes to our services. Since the day we were founded, our members hail from a variety of cultural backgrounds, and we have collectively endeavored toward developing a practice that can respond to the potentially multinational needs of our clients with business activities that may take them across various national borders, whether those clients are individuals or businesses. As a result, we have become a true “international” law firm, intentionally involving ourselves in deliberations and negotiations that transcend the divide between nations. This has become a key characteristic of our firm over the years, along with the fact that we retain a number of US and Japanese law firms as our clients, thanks to our extensive knowledge over a variety of legal subjects, ranging from the individual-specific focuses of family law, to subjects as complex and sprawling as anti-monopoly law. Every member of MSLG sees themselves as just a part of the whole that is our world. We work together to play a small part in contributing to the betterment of society, and to devote our small, individual strengths toward a grander effort in making our collective world a better place. *From the date of our founding, we have cherished the privacy of our employees. Back in the early 2000s, we actually were ahead of other firms when it came to putting attorney-specific information on our company website, which unfortunately led to a number of problems for our employees. Though some of the haranguing had to do with ongoing litigation at the time, the female employees of MSLG were often the targets of directed and horrific harassment that even went as far as involving the police. In addition to those concerns, the fact that MSLG handles a variety of cases concerning highly contested matters, we deem it critical to protect the privacy of the members of MSLG. Since the original harassment incident, a majority of our attorneys and employees have collectively agreed that it would be best for our firm not to expose too much of the firm’s internal information on the internet and social media, to better protect our staff, particularly our female staff, from further directed grievance from the innumerable and unknowable would-be harassers on the web. Therefore, we have elected not to put up any information specifically identifying our attorneys or employees on our website. For specific, personal information regarding our attorneys and employees, we ask that you contact MSLG personally and directly. |
